35 Years Ago, Tom Petty Confirmed Rumors On Street, Went Solo

Released on this day in 1989, Full Moon Fever is the debut solo studio album from Tom Petty. With contributions from key members of his band the Heartbreakers including co-producer Mike Campbell, Jeff Lynne of ELO, Roy Orbison (who would die prior to its release) and Petty's other bandmate in Traveling Wilburys - George Harrison, the album became a commercial and critical success, as five singles were released from the album; two hit the top 20 in the US Billboard Hot 100, and three topped the U.S. Mainstream Rock chart. Featuring "Free Fallin'", "I Won't Back Down", "Runnin' Down A Dream", "A Face In The Crowd", and "Yer So Bad", the album peaked at No. 3 on the U.S. and sold more than 5 million copies.
